About Jim Beam

America prides itself on the well matured Jim Beam Bourbon whiskey. The drink is manufactured in Clermont, Kentucky, by the Beam Suntory. Jim beam prides itself as one of the oldest selling Bourbon whiskey brands; the distillery started production in 1755 and has managed to keep the distillery running for subsequent generations.

Jacob Beam a farmer, is attributed as the original producer of the whiskey in a fashion that later became more popularly recognized as bourbon. Mr. Jacob Bean made the whiskey out of corn and sold his first barrel in 1795. By then the brand was widely recognized as the Old Jake Sour Mash The fortuned of the Beam’s family grew as the master distillery was carefully taught to subsequent generations. The distillery blossomed in the industrial revolution, and the distillery repositioned to Nelson County in 1854 to take advantage of the railway network.

In the years preceding 1880, revelers would bring jugs to the distillery to indulge in the wine, but starting in 1880, the whiskey started bottling under the brand Old Tub.

Ownership

The whiskey was christened “JIM Beam” in 1943 to honor the efforts of James Beauregard Beam who is attributed to the rebuilding of the distillery back in Clermont, Kentucky in 1934. The Jim Beam brand later changed hands after purchase by the Fortune Brands Holding company, and most recently, the brand was purchased by Suntory Holdings in 2014.

Distillery Capacity

The Jim beam Distillery has a capacity of 1.9 million litres annually owing to a large barrel store and its 19 ferments with a capacity of 45000 gallons. The whiskey goes through a double distillation process, after which it is put in barrels for maturation, having attained a modest 67.5 ABV.
