Aberlour whisky prices & brands Kenya
Aberlour is a Scotch whiskey from Aberlour town in Moray Scotland. The whiskey comes from one of the oldest distilleries, which was established in 1825, but the current distillery was put together by James and John Grant in 1879 as a splinter group from the original distillery. The distillery has weathered the storms of world wars and wildfires as well as having a change of ownership from James Flemming in the 1879, R Thorne and sons in 1892, WH Holt & Sons in 1921, Campbell distillers in 1945 and the current owners are the Chivas Brothers Holdings whose parent company is Pernod Ricard.
The Distillery annual capacity
The current Aberlour distillery has a capacity of 3.5 million litres per year, putting the distillery in the biggest upper middle section whiskey Distilleries. Based on its sweet, calm character, it is highly suggestive that the process of distillation is slow, enabling such richness of taste.
Aberlour is specially crafted in American Oak Barrels and hand-picked Oloroso Sherry with ingredients of barley and soft water from the Ben Rinnes mountains that are just in the vicinity, the whiskey is aged for a minimum of 12 years in double casks making the drink bring out the distinctive characteristics of each cask. This makes the whiskey rich single malt with a complex tasting palate.
For a single malt whiskey, Aberlour is distinctively rich with interesting flavors induced in its maturation processes, making it an authentic richly flavored single malt. The taste notes are characterized by fruity fragrances with spicy ginger, toffee – cinnamon palate infused with rich chocolate. Aberlour leaves a lingering sweet and hintingly spicy finish. However, Aberlour a'bunadh has a taste departure with the nose carrying sherried peels and buttered meatloaf, exotic spearmint cake. Aberlour palate, however, retains the dark chocolate mousse with the heat of the cinnamon and white pepper. The finish is more of dried fruit and sugared almond notes.
Varieties and availability
The drink is available in maturation periods of 10, 12, 16, 18 years, and the Aberlour a'bunadh batch. With an alcohol content of 40%, Aberlour offers an incredibly rich burst of flavor for an oak-aged whiskey. The flagship darling of flavor is the 12 years old whiskey.
